Iron City
Even though they have now moved to Greensburg, we have a soft spot in our heart for Pittsburgh Brewing because they gave us the idea for the name of this website. Also, we still have some cool Pittsburgh Brewing "Save Our City" T-shirts to give away. Send us your favorite choice for our next featured local compay, local product, local event, or country cousins product and we will send you a T-shirt.

How Can I Support Local Developement Programs?
While most people's first thoughts when they hear the term "support" tend to center on donating money, the Save Our City Center focuses on programs that build up your family, friends, and neighbors through your involvement and time. Things like donating blood at your church, helping at a Special Olympics Event, running the Brentwood 5 K race on the 4th of July, or canoeing on the Allegheny River. We would also like to concentrate on one event a quarter to provide a focus for our Save Our city efforts. Our first choice for local programs is the Central Blood Bank. Something like million worth of blood products need to be purchased from other areas of the country each year. With so many of our family, friends and neighbors being helped, and with so many of our hospitals attracting patients from all over the world, this was an easy choice. (Besides that, I ran our blood drives at work for 7 years and always found them to be really nice people.) See our Favorite Links page for a special promotion where you can win free gasoline if you donate. Our second choice is the Great Race, one of my all-time favorite local events. While the 5K is a little more my speed these days, I think there is something for everyone in this truely unique Pittsburgh celebration. Somewhere, Mayor Caligiuri is smiling broadly.

"Produce quality products for people and they'll come back."
In 1889, Mollie Austin asked her husband James if he knew of a better rug cleaner, James decided to make his own cleaner. After many versions, and Mollie's approval Austin's Carpet Cleaner was born.
Cooking the formula on the kitchen stove, James sold his product out of his Pittsburgh, PA grocery store. By word of mouth, others asked for Austin's Carpet Cleaner; planting the seed for what is today a fourth generation family company that manufactures a wide variety of household and institutional cleaning products.
Certainly Mollie and James would be proud of today's fourth generation of Austin's who still uphold the family motto:
"Produce quality products for people and they'll come back."

Thermo Twin Windows
Founded in 1972 in New Kensington, PA, Thermo-Twin’s core business was supplying window manufacturers with insulated glass units. In 1974, business expanded into general home remodeling and we began manufacturing our own windows, using frames and sashes produced by various suppliers.
In 1981, our Company began selling windows under the trade name, Thermo-Twin Industries, Inc. andmoved from its original location to a 55,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Oakmont, PA. This allowed for additional growth and for the window and glass operations to be housed together. In 1987, Thermo-Twin began manufacturing windows using vinyl extrusions.
1987 was a defining year for Thermo Twin. This is the year that our Company became Employee-Owned! Through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan, the employees purchased the company from its original owner. In 1991, Thermo-Twin opened its first branch sales office in Toledo, Ohio.
Our Company’s success and growth continued into 1992 with the acquisition of Amacor’s assets. This development allowed Thermo-Twin to increase production of thermalized commercial and heavy commercial products.
Thermo-Twin opened a branch sales office in Akron, Ohio in 1993. Then, in 1995, we purchased a 150,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Oakmont, PA where we still manufacture our custom windows and maintain our corporate headquarters.
